Sick day
"The Situation" -4 kids all sick with different things. Abby (7) is sick with a cold. Nathan (5) is recovering from surgery. Tonsils, adenoids and tubes, second time on the tubes. They said the adenoids and tonsils were gargantuan. Poor kid could not eat and breath at the same time and he snored all the time. Before the surgery he had just gotten over Roseola, aka 5ths disease. First comes the high fever for a few days then a relatively harmless rash. We thought that was what Abby was trying to get, but no rash yet. Ben (2.5) has a fever. Started to think it was what Nathan had, but Ben is throwing up. Ben will throw up over anything, so I guess we wait to see if he gets the rash. Night before last, Liz (4 months) started with a fever too. Abby is the oldest and can be a super sweetheart, but for some reason with everyone sick, she is giving me attitude. "Attitude" is being nice. She tends to be an attention hog, I guess not enough to go around for her taste. It's the strangest thing, when everyone is sick, things get a little easier. If you don't mind extra puke laundry and medication administration. Everyone just acts pitiful on the couch. The noise level goes way down. I started to think we had carbon monoxide poisoning. One by one they fell asleep. I am so thankful DH was able to take off first 12 to help with the kids. DH is a firefighter and works 24 hours at a time. He has to use his saved time off very judiciously. One day off for him would be like someone elses 3 days off. 24 hours chopped off at a time. Wishing it was a real sick day. You know, the ones you call in sick but you just needed a day off.
